Potosi Volleyball Preview

(Potosi) The Potosi Trojans ended last season with a 3-0 playoff loss to Ste. Genevieve, and enter this one with a lot of changes. Most notably, Ashley Matthews has stepped in as the head coach. She faces some early challenges as there are only two seniors on the roster and the junior class lacks varsity experience. Coach Matthews has prioritized team building this summer.

Despite the lack of familiarity Coach Matthews recognizes the team’s hunger, knowledge, and drive. Senior right hitter Paige West has started on varsity for her entire career, and her experience is key to guiding the team on the court.

The Trojans boast a young team, and many players will be placed into contributing roles on varsity for the first time. Carsyn Yount will be the new setter, replacing the graduated Kadence Sadler. Yount recently learned how to play the position.

Libero Taylor Rayfield is expected to have a big impact. She played the same position while on JV last year, and has earned the starting varsity spot this season.

Potosi volleyball will be built on teamwork and positivity this season. Coach Matthews has been preaching that message throughout the preseason.

Potosi opens the season at West County on August 28th.
