Jefferson County Prosecutor Discusses Reducing Charges Against Former Deputy

(Hillsboro) Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney Trisha Stefanski is standing behind the decision of a reduced sentence for 29-year-old Colby McCreary, a former off-duty Jefferson County deputy, after he was a driver in a traffic accident that resulted in the death of his wife Savannah.

It happened last April.

The announcement was made earlier this month that the former Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy will now be charged with Driving While Intoxicated, which is a Class B misdemeanor that carries a penalty of up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.

Stefanski says the report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol could not prove or back the original charges.

Stefanski says she expected a lot of backlash and opinions after the announcement.

McCreary was the driver in a Jeep that crashed on southbound I-55 between the Herculaneum and Festus exits on April 30th, 2023.

The case is scheduled for a plea next month.
