Public Comment Period Underway for New Washington County Hazard Mitigation Plan

(Potosi) Public comment can be made until October 31st on the Washington County Hazard Mitigation Plan.

The plan can be reviewed on the Meramec Regional Planning Commission’s website, meramecregion.org.

The plan update is located under the Hazard Mitigation Plans by county along with the county’s approved 2018 plan.

A hard copy is also at the Washington County Clerk’s office in the courthouse.

The purpose of the plan is to reduce or eliminate long-term risk to people and property from natural hazards.

It’s required that the county have this plan in place in order to be eligible for several FEMA grant programs.

Several entities participated in the planning, including Washington County government, the villages of Caledonia and Mineral Point and the cities of Irondale and Potosi, as well as the Kingston, Potosi, Richwoods and Valley school districts, along with Great Mines Health Center.

When the comment period ends, a final draft will be created and sent to FEMA and SEMA for review and approval.
