Red Cross Issues Crisis Alert

(Farmington) The American Red Cross has issued its first-ever blood crisis alert. As winter presses on, the nonprofit organization says its blood supply remains at dangerously low levels. Joe Zydlo with the Red Cross says COVID-19 is just one of the factors making this alert necessary.

The Red Cross says it is dealing with its worst blood shortage in more than a decade. The coronavirus pandemic has slowed down donations. The crisis alert is in effect nationwide. Locally, there’s a blood drive next Tuesday at the Parkland Chapel Church in Farmington. First State Community Bank will hold a drive next Friday at it’s downtown Farmington location.
