Reduction in Requirement for Missouri Teachers

(Jefferson City) The Missouri Board of Education has voted unanimously to do away with the 3.0 cumulative grade point average requirement for candidates applying for a teaching license.

President Charlie Shields of St. Joseph says he originally opposed the recommendation.

Paul Katnik is the assistant commissioner with the state education department.

He says 38 public comments favor the recommendation. He says there were three opposing arguments.

The new change begins in about three weeks.
