Reese Smith Makes It Three Bulldogs On The Softball Dream Team

(Leadwood) The West County Bulldogs had three players voted onto the Softball Dream Team: seniors Gracie Wright, Morgan Simily and Reese Smith. Smith is the power hitter of the group, clubbing 10 home runs this season and 23 for her career, giving her the school record. Smith also set the school record walks. She worked hard to improve after her junior season, so Smith was happy to get recognized by the other area coaches.

Smith had a .519 batting average and a 1.114 slugging percentage this season along with getting walked 23 times. She takes us through her approach at the plate.

The Bulldogs finished as runner-ups in Class Two after falling to nationally ranked Mount Vernon in the state championship. Smith said it was a great run.

A common theme among her fellow Dream Teamers, Smith tells us what her favorite game to play in was.

Smith, Simily and Wright got to play in the Missouri High School Fastpitch Coaches Association Senior Showcase at Mizzou Stadium in Columbia at the end of the season. There were three teams, each with a designated coach, but at one point in the game, West County coach CJ Wright made an appearance as third base coach and the first base coach was Reese’s dad.

Smith was named second team all-state. She will play softball at St. Charles Community College. West County went 24-4 this season.
