Regional Radio Senior Spotlight – Baseball: Fredericktown, Lesterville, Perryville

Ethan Flanagan – IF, SP

Flanagan was a returning player for the Fredericktown baseball team this spring and was one of the team’s featured offensive players. He was once again going to hit at the top of the lineup be one of the team’s top run producers. Flanagan was also going to be a key part of the pitching staff who would throw strikes and challenge hitters to put the ball in play. He was also a member of the Fredericktown football and basketball teams. Flanagan plans to join the workforce after graduation.

Russell Matthews – OF, SP

Matthews was a returning player for the Blackcats baseball team this spring and would have been the anchor of the outfield in centerfield. He was a big-time offensive threat who had a great swing and was one of the team’s best hitters. Matthews would have hit in the top to middle of the order and could hit for both average and power. He plans to attend college to study to become a State Highway Patrol trooper.

Nehemia Brubacher – 1B

Brubacher was joining the Fredericktown baseball team for the first time this spring after having come to Fredericktown High School for that very reason. He had tremendous pop in his bat and would have been a middle of the order hitter who drove in a lot of runs. Brubacher was a beast in the weight room and consistently worked to get better. He plans to attend Mineral Area College in the fall.

Jeffrey Couch – OF

Couch was a returning player for the Blackcats baseball team this spring who was going to be a key outfielder for them this year. Over the past few seasons he was the type of player who they could plug and play and he would get the job done. Couch brings high energy to the field and has a contagious positive attitude. He plans to attend Mineral Area College in the fall.

Collin Corcino – C, SP, Utility

Corcino was coming back to play baseball for Fredericktown after having taken some time off to play golf for the Blackcats. He was a great competitor who brought a great skillset to the diamond. Corcino was versatile and was going to play multiple positions this year. He had a strong arm and great pop in his bat. Corcino plans to attend SEMO in the fall.

Lane Wagganer

Wagganer was joining the Blackcats baseball team for the first time this year. He was a coachable player who worked hard to learn the game and did things the right way. Wagganer was also a member of the Fredericktown soccer and golf teams. He plans to attend college to study to become an educator.

Joseph Price – OF

Price was going to be a first-year player for the Fredericktown baseball team this year. He had a great skillset and could hit, throw, and field well. Price worked hard in the weight room and always brought a great attitude to the field. He plans to attend Lincoln Tech after graduation to become a welder.

Lesterville Bearcats:

Tray Amsden – IF, SP

Amsden was a returning multi-year starter for the Lesterville baseball team this spring and was one of the elite offensive players in the area. He improved on his hitting every year and was an absolute force in the Bearcats’ lineup. Last year Amsden hit .415 with a .516 on-base percentage, 4 homeruns, and 15 RBI. He was named All-Conference and All-District. In 11 games during the fall season, Amsden hit .533 with a .622 on-base percentage, 4 homeruns, 12 RBI, and 10 runs scored. He will be attending Mizzou in the fall.

William White

White was going to be a first-year player for the Bearcats baseball team this spring. He was a high-character individual and worked hard to learn the game and improve early on. White showed that he was willing to play any role the team would have needed this season to help them get better and win games.

Clayton Steffens – OF, 1B, RP

Steffens was a returning player for the Perryville baseball team this spring and was going to be a valuable player this season. He was named a team captain and was the type of player who made practice and games fun. Steffens was one of the team’s top returning hitters who would have been in the four or five spot in the lineup and be expected to drive in a lot of runs. He was also one of the team’s hardest throwers and was likely to be in a closer-type role out of the bullpen. Steffens was also a member of the Perryville football team.

Carter Dix – C, RP

Dix was a returning player for the Pirates baseball team this spring and was a tough, gritty player. He was named a team captain and was going to be the team’s primary catcher but could play virtually any position on the field. Dix was going to be one of the team’s primary run producers after a strong showing in 2019. Last year he hit .314 with 2 doubles, 6 RBI, and 6 runs scored. He was one of the team’s best pitchers this past season and was going to be used primarily out of the bullpen this year. Dix was also a member of the Perryville football team.

Parker Miller – SS, SP

Miller was a returning player for the Perryville baseball team this spring and was the most experienced returning player of the senior group. He was a great athlete who has an excellent glove in the field and would have anchored the defense at the shortstop position. Miller would have likely been the team’s leadoff hitter this season and be asked to be the table setter of the offense. He was also going to be one of the team’s top pitchers in the starting rotation. This past season Miller scored 10 runs, drove in 3 runs, and drew 11 walks.

Brad Ernst – 3B, 1B, OF, RP

Ernst was a returning player for the Pirates baseball team this spring and would have been a go-to guy on the team this year. His athleticism and versatility allowed him to play any spot on the field and this year he wanted to pitch as well. Ernst was a coachable player who worked hard consistently to improve. Last year he drove in 2 runs and drew 2 walks. Ernst was also a member of the Perryville football team.

Drew Hotop – RP

Hotop was going to be joining the Perryville baseball team this spring after having taken some time off to focus on other sports. He was a great teammate and the type of player any team would enjoy having around. Despite some time away, Hotop was a talented pitcher and would have been a valuable fresh arm out of the bullpen. He was also a member of the Perryville football and basketball teams.

Braden Foglietta – OF

Foglietta was a first-year player for the Pirates baseball team this spring and showed some good skills in the early portion of this season. He had a good eye at the plate and did not swing at many pitches outside of the strike zone. Foglietta also displayed impressive range in the outfield and had a strong arm as well.
