Representative McGirl On Legalizing Sports Betting in Missouri

(Jefferson City) Missouri is late to the game when it comes to legalizing sports betting in the state.

Five years ago, the U.S. Supreme Court said sports betting would be left up to individual states to outlaw or make sports betting legal.

Over half have already made it legal since that ruling came down but in the Show-Me state, it remains illegal.

State Representative Mike McGirl of Potosi says a House sports betting bill did have some movement last week.

However, Representative McGirl says the House bill is not currently lining up with the Senate’s bill.

Sports betting is now legal in 34 states.

Both Missouri chambers have about a month and a half to find a compromise in their sports betting bills.

Friday, May 12th is the last day of the 2023 regular session.
