(Valles Mines) 11 animals perished in an early morning fire at a local petting zoo on Friday morning.
Fire crews responded to Critter Lane Petting Zoo in northern St. Francois County just after 5am on Friday after getting a call that the reptile house was on fire.
When firefighters arrived on scene they reported that the reptile house was almost completely burned down.
The neighboring bird house also received some water and smoke damage. However, all animals inside that building were not injured.
Authorities have not released the cause of the fire.
In a social media post, the petting zoo said “All of us here are devastated by the loss of animals.”
Critter Lane, which opened for the season this past weekend, has setup a way to donate to help with the cost of rebuilding and equipment for a new reptile house.
Anyone wishing to donate can do so by finding the Critter Lane Petting Zoo on Facebook.
