(Hillsboro, High Ridge) The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of one of their retired deputies. Corporal Don Cummines passed away at the age of 76, he was found at his home in High Ridge on Monday. While responding to a domestic violence call in Byrnes Mill in 1998, Cummines was shot in the head. Although he recovered from the shooting, Sheriff Dave Marshak says it was a struggle for Cummines afterward.

Retired Sheriff Glen Boyer remembers the incident well.

Cummines, who was awarded the Medal of Valor, retired from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in 2009.
