Richwoods School Awarded Grant from D.N.R.

(Richwoods) The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded nearly $75,000 to eight public water systems to plug 11 abandoned water wells.

The Richwoods School District in northern Washington County has been awarded 2-thousand dollars worth of that grant money.

The D.N.R.’s Abandoned Well Plugging Grant Program provides financial assistance to qualifying public water systems to properly plug abandoned water wells.

Left unplugged, these wells could provide a conduit for contaminants to enter vital groundwater aquifers.

The Richwoods school will use the money to contract with a certified well driller or pump installer to plug their abandoned well.
