Robert “Popeye” Duren of Festus, passed away Saturday (7/4), at the age of 89. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War; and retired from the maintenance department at the former PPG glass plant in Crystal City. He was a member of Selma American Baptist Church of Festus; VFW #3777; American Legion #253; Elks #1721; Festus/Crystal City Conservation Club; Furtakers of America; National Trappers Association; Missouri Trappers Association, where he was inducted into its Hall of Fame; and the Conservation Federation of Missouri, where in 1997 he and his son Ralph were recognized as the Conservation Communicators of the Year.

He is survived by sons Ralph Duren of Jefferson City, and Rob Duren of Warrenton, daughters Becky Huskey of DeSoto, and Rhonda Mitchell of Herculaneum, and Robin Batts of DeSoto; 18 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Robert Duren will be Thursday (7/9) morning at 11, at the Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus, Interment with full military honors in Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City.
