Rock Memorial rallies, walks off to beat Jefferson County Blazers

It was a wild and wacky return to live sports on AM 1400 KJFF as Rock Memorial baseball gave away a big early lead and rallied to earn a walk-off 10-9 win over the Jefferson County Blazers.

Rock jumped out to a 5-0 lead on the strength of 4 shutout innings from starting pitcher Hunter Ward, but they gave it away in one inning.

Still trailing in the bottom of the sixth, Rock Memorial rallied, and catcher Cooper Thomas came up with the biggest swing of the night.

The Blazers tied the game back up in the top of the seventh, but Noah Shuman hammered a one-out double in the bottom half of the inning to set up the dramatic finish.

Shuman finished with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored and an RBI on his way to being named Applebee’s Player of the Game.

Rock head coach Danny Sigman says Shuman has found his footing with the team with a short amount of time.

Rock Memorial improves to 4-2 on the season while the Blazers fall to 5-6-2.

Rock is back in action hosting the Apex Tournament all this weekend.
