Rolla “Duke” Herbert Championship Match Up Set

(CRYSTAL CITY)  The Herculaneum Blackcats wand the St. Vincent Indians will face each other in the championship game of the Rolla “Duke” Herbert boys basketball tournament Friday night at Crystal City High School. The semi final games were broadcast Wednesday night on AM 1400 KJFF and mymoinfo.com. In the first game of the night, Herculaneum beat Jefferson 54-34 and in the second game, St. Vincent downed Saxony Lutheran 49-36.

 

For Herculaneum, Gabe Watkins scored 25 points and Jackson Dearing scored 12 points. For the Blue Jays, they were led by Max Schnitzler who had 10 points. Blackcat’s coach Jason Jarvis says he was proud of several reserve players.

 

 

In the second game of the night, Grant Abernathy scored 17 points for St. Vincent.  For Saxony, their lead scorer was John Hartman who had 11 points.

 

St. Vincent Head Coach Bruce Valleroy says good defense helped his team get the win.

 

 

On the young season, Herculaneum has a record of 3-0, St. Vincent is 2-0, Saxony 1-1 and Jefferson is 1-2.

 

The first rounds of the consolation bracket take place Thursday at the Rolla “Duke” Herbert Boys basketball tournament. The first game at 5pm will pit 8th seed St. Louis Patriots against #4 Crystal City. In the 6:30 game, #7 Grandview will face #6 McKinley. Winners will play in the consolation championship Friday at 5:30 pm. Losers of Thursday’s games will face each other in the 7th place game set for Friday at 4pm.
