Rolla “Duke” Herbert Classic reaches semifinals on KJFF

(Crystal City) A new season of high school basketball coverage on KJFF begins Wednesday.

The semifinals of the Rolla “Duke” Herbert Classic will see the Herculaneum Blackcats battle the St. Vincent Indians and the Seckman Jaguars take on Saxony Lutheran.

The doubleheader begins with Herculaneum looking to get to 3-0 on the season.

Despite struggling to a 6-17 record last year, the Blackcats look to be making a leap thanks to the emergence of junior point guard Gabe Watkins.

After he scored 39 points in the 2 wins, Herky head coach Jason Jarvis says it’s clear Watkins is all the way back from injury.

St. Vincent won its season opener over the Grandview Eagles Tuesday night.

Later in the evening, Seckman looks to top Saxony Lutheran in the second semifinal.

Despite losing last year’s top 2 scorers, Seckman cruised past the Crystal City Hornets in the quarterfinals 87-41 and had 4 players score in double figures Monday night.

Jaguars head coach Travis Williams hopes that balanced offense will continue.

The Saxony Lutheran Crusaders went just 8-14 last season.

Seckman will take on Saxony after Herculaneum looks to hurdle St. Vincent in the Rolla “Duke” Herbert Classic semifinals.

Pregame coverage starts immediately following KJFF Sports Talk live from Crystal City starting at 4 on AM 1400 KJFF.
