Romaine and Patterson Lead Hillsboro Rushing Attack Past North County on J98

(Hillsboro) The Hillsboro Hawks football team held serve at home as they defeated the North County Raiders by a final score of 36-14 tonight on J98.

The Hawks received the opening kickoff and marched right down the field before Austin Romaine punched in the first score of the game.

A successful two-point conversion made it 8-0 Hillsboro right out of the gate.

North County’s first possession ended on an interception as Tyler Watson picked off the Raiders’ Nolan Reed and set up the Hawks at midfield.

A few plays later it was Jaxin Patterson who scampered in for an 8-yard touchdown run and a successful two-point try made it 16-0 Hillsboro.

North County’s next drive stalled out inside the Hawks’ 10-yard line after a turnover on downs.

With Hillsboro backed up on their side of the field, quarterback Griffin Ray rolled out and threw a ball that wound up in the wrong endzone.

Karter Kekec’s fourth interception in four games this season put the Raiders on the board and a successful two-point conversion made it 16-8.

Hillsboro responded on their ensuing drive as they moved the ball down the field before Tyler Watson took a jet sweep 21 yards into the endzone late in the half.

A failed two-point try kept the score at 22-8 which is where it stood at the break.

North County received the second-half kickoff and once again had their drive stall out deep into Hillsboro territory.

The Hawks gave possession right back after a botched snap resulted in a fumble recovery for the Raiders.

With another opportunity at a red zone possession, North County took advantage thanks to Clayton Chandler.

Two-point try was no good to keep the score at 22-14.

It was all Hillsboro the rest of the way as Romaine and Patterson both found the end zone again to put the game out of reach.

Romaine and Patterson were both named the Applebee’s of Farmington Players of the Game, combining for 260 yards on 45 carries and four touchdowns.

Hillsboro’s defense was stout in the second half, allowing North County just 50 total yards of offense over the final two quarters.

Hawks head coach Bill Sucharski says he loved seeing his team’s physicality on the defensive side of the ball.

Hillsboro improves to 2-2 on the season and will be on the road next week against the Festus Tigers.

North County falls to 2-2 and will next host Agape Boarding School.
