Saturday morning homicide south of Festus

(Festus) A homicide investigation is underway in the 1700 block of Burley Road in the Festus area.

Around 8:35 AM Saturday morning, Jefferson County 911 Dispatch received a call for a gunshot. Upon their arrival, Deputies located a 73-year-old man who had been shot. He was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The 42-year-old suspect was taken into custody on-scene and transported to the Jefferson County Jail.

The investigation revealed the suspect is the victim’s son and lived in the home. However, the motive is still unknown at this time. Detectives and crime scene analysts are processing the scene.

The suspect’s name is being withheld pending criminal charges. The victim will be identified once next of kin notifications are made.
