(FESTUS) The girls and boys Class 3 District 3 championship games at Jefferson R-7 High School will be on J-98 Friday night.

The girls game will pit two teams coming off impressive victories in the semifinals. Saxony Lutheran beat Herculaneum 50-37 to improve to 21-7, but Crusaders head coach Sam Sides says his team has some serious kinks to iron out before the title game.

Arcadia Valley used a huge night from Jaesa Brockes to cruise past West County 85-54 in the semis, as the senior poured in 23 of her game-high 29 points in the first half. Tigers head coach Stan Whited says despite being unfamiliar with his district title fight opponent, he knows his team will be in for a strong challenge.

Tip-off for the girls’ district championship game is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Game 2 of J-98’s coverage will be top-seed St. Pius, checking in at 20-7, battling the 2nd-seeded Jefferson Blue Jays at 18-8 for the boys’ district championship. This will be the 3rd time these two teams have played each other this season. The Lancers have won both meetings, once in the Grandview Tournament title game, 53-48, and in a regular season matchup at St. Pius, 43-42, back on February 8th.

For the Blue Jays and coach Sean Breeze, beating St. Pius this time around comes down to guys having more confidence in taking care of the ball.

St. Pius will again be without leading scorer and rebounder Riley Naeger, who is out for the season with a broken right wrist. Even without him, the Lancers have won four straight, including a 38-32 triumph over Arcadia Valley in the semifinals.

Instead of making Naeger’s injury the focus, head coach Eric Lawrence wants to highlight the need for even better communication on defense, especially with the shooters that Jefferson has.

Tip-off for the Class 3 District 3 boys championship game will be 15 minutes after the conclusion of the Saxony Lutheran-Arcadia Valley girls championship game at 6. Both games from Jefferson R-7 High School will be on J-98 Friday night, beginning with the Flieg’s Equipment Pregame Show at 5:45.
