(FREDERICKTOWN) In girls basketball tonight on J-98, the Saxony Lutheran Crusaders cruised to the Class 3 District 2 title for the sixth consecutive season with a 52-37 win over the Arcadia Valley Tigers. This was the fifth-straight district title game between the two teams.

Both teams struggled offensively in the first half as the Tigers trailed by five points at halftime. A-V struggled on the glass against the demonstrably bigger Crusaders, but some physicality kept the contest within striking distance.

Gracee Smith finished with 3 points. Josie Landrum paced the Tigers with 13.

However, the Crusaders outscored the Tigers 17-7 in the third quarter. Three Saxony Lutheran players reached double-digit scoring.

A-V’s season comes to an end at 15-10. Head coach Stan Whited says the size difference played a factor.

The Tigers will lose lone senior Makayla Moise and Whited says she’ll be tough to replace.

Saxony Lutheran moves on to the Class 3 state sectionals against Central New Madrid.
