The Saxony Lutheran Crusaders are headed to the state sectionals next week as they won their 7th straight district title last Friday night against the Arcadia Valley Tigers 48-33 at Jefferson R-7 in Festus. In the game heard on J-98, the Tigers led 5-4 early in the first quarter, but the Crusaders finished the first quarter strong.

Saxony Lutheran led the rest of the way to win the game, leading 23-14 at halftime and going on to beat Arcadia Valley in a district title game for the 5th straight year. The Crusaders’ Emma Brune led all scoring with 17 points and was our Applebee’s Player of the Game. She put the game on ice in the fourth quarter with the Gilster Mary Lee Play of the Game:

Macey Smith added 11 points. Crusaders head coach Sam Sides, fresh off his 500th career win, credits Brune and Smith for stepping up in the big moment.

Gracee Smith led scoring for the Tigers with 12 points as Arcadia Valley finishes their season at 18-10. Saxony Lutheran is now 22-7 and will play St. James on Wednesday at Jefferson College in the state sectionals. Tip-off is set for 7:45.
