Schamel and Fortner Shining for Northwest Girls Track and Field

(CEDAR HILL) Northwest junior Erica Schamel and senior Megan Fortner have combined for eleven 1st place finishes during this year’s track and field season.

Fortner is coming off a 2018 campaign where she medaled at state in the javelin and so far this year has been tops in javelin 4 times and shot put once. Lions head coach Glen House says that Megan is a tremendous athlete with a good chance at getting back to state.

 
Erica finished 4th at state in the high jump last year and this season has picked up where she left off, placing 1st in the high jump 4 times, and once in each the long jump and triple jump.

 
Then there is senior Kaitlyn Bell who Coach House feels like has been overlooked this year.

 
The Northwest girls track and field team still has a couple of meets before districts begin on May 11th at Hillsboro High School. Northwest is in Class 5 District 1.
