Scherffius Tosses Gem as Central Tops Farmington on KREI

(Farmington, Mo.) Pitching and defense was the name of the game as the Central Rebels baseball team blanked the Farmington Knights 2-0 at Wilson Rozier Park tonight on KREI.

Central’s Cade Scherffius and Farmington’s Jackson Collier were the starting pitchers and the two were locked in a duel throughout the game.

Then in the top of the sixth inning, Central broke the tie.

A single and two errors loaded the bases with one out and Slade Schweiss capitalized.

Schweiss finished the game going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

With the Rebels still leading 2-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh, Scherffius was able to finish what he started.

Scherffius was named the Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game after tossing a seven-inning complete game shutout with only one hit allowed, eight strikeouts, and two walks.

He says he knew coming in that he had a chance to put together a strong showing.

Central head coach Ronnie Calvird says he could tell early that Scherffius was on top of his game.

Farmington assistant coach Josh Hoehn says it was a tremendous pitching duel between Scherffius and Collier but the Rebels just made fewer mistakes defensively.

The victory for Central puts a bookend on their summer season as they have no more games scheduled at this point.

Farmington will be back in action on Tuesday as they head to Bonne Terre to take on the North County Raiders.

We’ll have coverage of that game beginning at 4:45 on J98.
