Seckman-Eureka, Festus-Central in Steighorst semis on KJFF

(Hillsboro) Two teams will move to a championship game Friday on KJFF.

The Steighorst Invitational continues as the Seckman Jaguars take on Eureka and the Central Rebels meet the Festus Tigers in the semifinals.

The first half of the doubleheader sees Seckman looking to continue an unbeaten start to the season.

Behind new stars like junior forward Anthony Westervelt and senior guard Collin Debold, the Jaguars are 4-0 for the first time in 8 years.

But head coach Travis Williams knows they will be in a for a fight if they want to stay perfect.

Defending tournament champion Eureka’s season opener was their win over DeSoto in the quarterfinals.

In the second semifinal, Central will look to duplicate the result they got exactly one week ago against Festus.

Star sophomore guard Jobe Bryant poured in a career-high 42 points to help the Rebels start their season with an 83-49 victory over the Tigers last Friday.

While Festus is 2-1 and features stars of their own like junior point guard Arhmad Branch, head coach Jason Therrell feels they need to raise their game as a whole team to keep Central from reaching 3-0.

The Festus Tigers tangle with the Central Rebels right after the Seckman Jaguars try to snare the Eureka Wildcats.

Coverage from the semifinals of the 66th annual Gene Steighorst Invitational begins with the Flieg’s Equipment Pregame Show Friday evening at 5:15 on AM 1400 KJFF.
