Seckman squares off with Herculaneum for Duke Herbert Classic title on KJFF

(Crystal City) A champion will be crowned at the Rolla “Duke” Herbert Classic Friday on KJFF.

The Herculaneum Blackcats face the Seckman Jaguars with both teams looking for a tournament title that signals the start of better times.

Both teams have had losing seasons every year for at least a decade, but both squads are also off to their first fast start in a long time.

Herculaneum is seeking its first 4-0 start since 2002.

The Blackcats have been paced by senior forward Dallin Fuller and junior point guard Gabe Watkins.

But Herky head coach Jason Jarvis also likes the mental fortitude his team showed in their semifinal win Wednesday night.

Seckman is trying to reach 3-0 for the first time since 2013.

The Jaguars have responded extremely well from losing last season’s two leading scorers, thanks to the leadership of seniors Nate White and Ethan Miler.

Junior Anthony Westervelt and sophomore Collin Debold are also emerging as big-time players, but head coach Travis Williams says they’ll see plenty of good players when they face Herculaneum.

The Jaguars have won all 5 previous meetings with the Blackcats, but the 2 teams haven’t faced off since 2007.

Seckman battles Herculaneum in the championship game of the Rolla “Duke” Herbert Classic Friday evening.

Coverage starts at 8:15 on AM 1400 KJFF.
