(Ste. Genevieve) A pair of the best football teams in southeast Missouri last season meet to kick off 2022. The Seckman Jaguars battle the Valle Catholic Warriors in the season premiere of Jefferson County Friday Night Football on KJFF. Seckman is hot on the heels of the best season in school history, racking up 9 wins last year behind a monster season from quarterback Cole Ruble. The now-senior ran for over 2,500 yards and 30 touchdowns on his way to smashing every conceivable school rushing record. But, despite the team’s success, Jaguars head coach Nick Baer says his guys returned this year hungry for more.
Valle Catholic’s championship pedigree remained in tact last year. Even with star quarterback Chase Fallert missing time due to injury, the Warriors were still undefeated prior to the Class 3 District 2 title game. But, even with 15 state crowns all-time, a new conference and big matchups like this one in Week One is why head coach Judd Naeger says his guys are rearing and ready to go.
There are big-play athletes all over the field in this one. Valle senior running back Bryce Giesler is coming off an all-state season, and Seckman senior wide receiver Anthony Westervelt returns after pulling in 6 TD catches. Baer says the way the Warriors play makes you double-buckle your chinstrap.
Naeger has equally high praise for the Jaguars.
It’s a Week-One showdown between Seckman and Valle Catholic. Coverage of Jefferson County Friday Night Football begins with the Flieg’s Equipment Pregame Show at 6 Friday evening on AM 1400 KJFF. Tune in to KJFF Sports Talk: Friday Night Lights at 4:15 in the afternoon to get a preview of all the games in Jefferson County tonight.
