Several weekend traffic accidents in Jefferson County including a fatality

The Missouri State Highway Patrol was busy over the weekend working on several traffic accidents in Jefferson County.

The first accident took place Friday night on Highway E at Belleville Lane. The Highway Patrol states 20-year-old Jared Young of Hillsboro was driving a 2019 Ford Mustang northbound on E and was passing a 2010 Ford Explorer and pulled into the path of a 2016 Ford F450 pickup driven by 47-year-old Brent Pogue of Bonne Terre and struck the drivers side of the truck. Young’s vehicle then traveled off the right side of the roadway and caught fire. Young was airlifted to Mercy Hospital St. Louis and died from his injuries. Pogue was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital Jefferson with moderate injuries. The accident took place at 9:30 Friday night.

A St. Louis man was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident on Saturday night. The Highway Patrol reports 46-year-old Mark Guillermo was driving a 2006 Yamaha south on Old Lemay Ferry south of Spring Drive and was trying to pass the vehicle in front of him, and there was because of northbound traffic, he swerved back into the southbound lane and lost control of the motorcycle and struck a utility pole and a mailbox and overturned ejecting Guillermo. He was taken by ambulance to Barnes Hospital with serious injuries. The accident took place just before 8 o’clock on Saturday night.

Finally, a Londell man was injured in an ATV accident on northbound Highway Y south of Morse Mill Road on Sunday night. 21-year-old Jakob Tharp was driving a 2018 Polaris RZR and experienced a mechanical defect and skidded across the roadway, traveling off the left side of the road and overturned. Tharp was not wearing a seatbelt and was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital South with serious injuries. That accident took place just after 7 o’clock on Sunday night.
