(FREDERICKTOWN, Mo.) – Soccer players at all levels of the game can usually only dream of scoring six goals in a single match, but that’s exactly what Grant Shankle of the Fredericktown Blackcats did to earn Parkland Health Mart Pharmacy “Play It Forward” Athlete of the Week honors. The senior’s double hat trick came last Monday in the Blackcats’ 6-3 victory over Festus. Even though he was the only goal-scorer for his team that day, Shankle said he can’t take all the credit.

Since that game, Shankle has already bagged another hat trick, scoring three times in Fredericktown’s 6-0 win over St. Pius on Tuesday. He said it’s an indication of good things to come for the rest of the season.

Fredericktown has never won a district championship in boys soccer, but Shankle said he’d like to help change that.

As the Athlete of the Week, Shankle chose to send a $25 donation from Parkland Health Mart Pharmacy to Furever Paws and Claws Rescue, an organization that helps find homes for abandoned animals in Madison County. Fredericktown boys soccer will be back in action Thursday when they host Cape Notre Dame.
