Sheriff Marshak on binary explosives

(Hillsboro) While fireworks will be the subject of many complaints this holiday weekend, there are other explosive items that have prompted numerous calls to law enforcement agencies. Jefferson County Sheriff Dave Marshak says the department will get calls of those using Tannerite, which is used with firearms target practice by some. Sheriff Marshak says while it’s not illegal, but it must be used carefully.

Sheriff Marshak says those that detonate Tannerite that causes damage to neighbors’ property is certainly against the law. Also for those that don’t know, it is legal to discharge fireworks in unincorporated Jefferson County, so long as it’s not causing damage to neighboring property.
