(Hillsboro) Engaging in a vehicle pursuit is always a challenge for law enforcement these days. Jefferson County Sheriff Dave Marshak says it comes down to safety and possible litigation when it comes to chasing after a suspect on the roads.

Sheriff Marshak says most pursuits are halted before they even start.

29-year old Nicholas Roper of High Ridge fled from police on a few accusations this past weekend after stealing a 2001 Nissan Xterra, and was eventually taken into custody in St. Louis County on Sunday night. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office used spike strips on the vehicle, and Roper continued to drive on the rims until it could no longer function. Roper was charged with Resisting Arrest and Tampering 1st Degree.
