(Jefferson County) Deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office are currently undergoing training in discharging their weapons in low light situations.

Lieutenant Colonel Tim Whitney says “night fire qualifications” will continue through this week.

Whitney further explains how the United States Supreme Court became involved in making sure law enforcement officers were receiving proper training shooting in low light situations.

According to Whitney, that’s when the courts said that law enforcement agencies need to train based on situations officers will encounter daily.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is expected to complete night fire qualifications early next week.
