(HERCULANEUM) On “Knock Differences Out of the Park Day” at Andy Runzi Field in Herculaneum, the Blackcats baseball team shutout Crystal City 17-0 on KJFF.

Before the game, three students involved in the Special Olympics program at Herculaneum got a chance to throw out the ceremonial first pitch after they were recognized for their achievements in the Special Olympics track and field events.

When it comes to the game itself, a walk and an error started off the bottom of the first inning for Herky before Zach Phillips put a charge into an Eisenbeis curveball.

To sweeten the deal, Blackcats senior Tyler Cunningham comes off the bench and gets his first career home run.

The loss for Crystal City drops them to 1-10. The win puts Herculaneum at 8-2-1. The 1st inning grand slam for Phillips was the second time in as many games that the senior hit a 4-bagger in the 1st. He tries to put that feeling into words.

Herky senior Gavin Turley is liking the turn around he’s seen from the offense lately and is confident they can beat any team because of it.

Herculaneum returns tomorrow at home to face St. Clair. Crystal City also gets to be home tomorrow and welcomes in Grandview.
