South Iron And Bunker Girls To Play For Class 1 District 2 Championship Game On J98

(Lesterville) Just as the South Iron and Bunker boys played in the district championship Friday night, the girls will face off in the Class 1 District 2 title game Saturday afternoon. South Iron (24-2) are the top seed in the district, and second ranked team in the state in Class 1, while Bunker (19-8) carry the two seed in the district.

The Panthers have state championship aspirations, with a veteran roster and a new coach in Jimbo Blackwell, who has previously coached in the final weekend of the season while at Doniphan. Hopes of a state championship may be the end game, however, Blackwell understands the journey there may be a difficult one.

Bunker is playing for a district championship for the first time since the 2015-16 season, the year that culminated in their fourth straight district title. Bunker only won two games in the two seasons that followed, but they’ve improved their win total in all four years under head coach Brandon Robinson. The Eagles have won seven straight games and are hoping to make some noise against their conference, and district, foe.

South Iron and Bunker will play for the Class 1 District 2 championship Saturday afternoon at Lesterville High School. We’ll broadcast the game on J98 and MyMoInfo.com beginning at 2:45 with pregame coverage. Tip-off is set for 3 o’clock.
