South Iron and Bunker Move on In AV Thanksgiving Tournament

(Ironton) The South Iron Panthers defeated the Ellington Whippets 92-33 in semi final number one of the Arcadia Valley Thanksgiving tournament on J98. The Panthers got off to a hot start with their suffocating full court press and transition offense.

The Panthers were too much for the Whippets all game long as senior star Brock Wakefield did what he always does.

Wakefield finished with 17 while Drenin Dinkins added 27 for our Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game honors. After the game, head coach Dusty Dinkins says even though his guys are off to a great start they still have work to do.

In semi final number two the Bunker Eagles took down the Lesterville Bearcats 71-50 on J98. The game was back and forth early, but Bunker pulled ahead late in the first half to take a 10 point lead into halftime thanks to a full team effort.

Bunker came out hot in the second half outscoring Lesterville 20 to 10 in the 3rd quarter. The fourth quarter started off slow and Bunker proved to be too much for the Bearcats even with Nolan Mathes’ 36 point performance. Our Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game was Cade Sutton for the Eagles who put up 21 points. After the game Eagles head coach Rod Gorman says his team has good shooters but they are still figuring out who they are offensively.

The South Iron Panthers (2-0) and the Bunker Eagles (2-0) move on to the championship while Ellington (1-1) and Lesterville (1-2) play for third place on Thursday. Coverage starts at 5:15 Thanksgiving day on J98.
