South Iron Boys and Girls Both Crowned Champions of the Class 1 District 3 Basketball Tournament on J98
(Annapolis, Mo.) The Class 1 District 3 Championships took place tonight with the South Iron boys and girls both winning the chip in Annapolis on J98.
The girls game got the night started as the #1 South Iron Panthers took down the #2 Eminence Redwings by a final score of 55-33.
The Panthers came out blazing as they went on a 17-0 run early and led 19-3 after the first quarter.
The Redwings pushed back but still found themselves down 27-15 at halftime.
Then in the third quarter, South Iron started to pull away thanks to senior Michaela Ayers.
Later in the second half, it was freshman Madison Ayers’ turn to extend the lead.
Madison finished the game with 13 points and was named our Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game.
Panthers head coach Lawrence Graves says it’s a sweet feeling to win another District Championship.
South Iron improves to 23-4 with the win while Eminence finishes the season at 20-8.
The Panthers now advance to the State Tournament where they will take on the Norwood Pirates in Sectionals on Tuesday, and we’ll have coverage of that game beginning at 5:45 on J98.
In the boys Class 1 District 3 Championship, #1 South Iron topped the #2 Lesterville Bearcats by a final score of 74-58.
After a tightly contested first quarter, junior Brock Wakefield caught fire in the second to give the Panthers a comfortable lead.
South Iron went into the break with a 34-21 lead.
In the second half Panthers’ sophomore DJ Prater took over as he dominated the boards and poured it on from the field, adding the Doe Run Company Play of the Game to his impressive night.
Prater finished the contest with 22 points and was named our Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game.
South Iron head coach Dusty Dinkins says it’s a special win for his team.
The Panthers remain undefeated on the season as they improve to 29-0 while Lesterville finishes the season at 21-8.
South Iron advances to the State Tournament where they will take on the winner of the District 4 Tournament which will be determined tomorrow night between Dora and Norwood.
A Dora victory would set up a matchup between the top two teams in Class 1 in the state of Missouri.
