South Iron Boys Back In Springfield To Defend State Crown

(Springfield) The South Iron Panthers are back in Springfield to defend their state championship in the Show-Me Showdown for Class 1 tomorrow evening. The Panthers come in with a record of 26-4 and defeated Leopold in the Quarterfinals last Saturday. Head Coach Dusty Dinkins says that his team was almost perfect in that victory and started to find a rhythm from beyond the arc.

The Panthers lost a lot of talent from last year’s championship squad, but this group of seniors wants to go back-to-back for Annapolis. The Panthers are led by Drenin Dinkins, DJ Prater and Champ McMurray. This trio averages 54-and-a-half of the team’s 75 points per game this season. Dinkins says it was always the goal for these guys to get back to Springfield.

The Panthers are a lethal scoring team, but it’s the defense that will lead them to another state championship.

South Iron faces the 18-10 St. Elizabeth Hornets tomorrow from Hammons Student Center on J98. The Fliegs Equipment Pregame Show begins at 5:45.
