South Iron Boys Basketball Cruises Past Higbee in Semifinals

(Springfield) The South Iron Panthers boys basketball team will play for their first state title since 1965 tomorrow as they had no trouble dispelling of the Higbee Tigers 75-40 this morning on J-98. It was just a nine point lead after the first, but the Panthers started clicking on all cylinders in the second.

At the half, South Iron led 47-19. The Panthers came out sluggish in the third, but Drenin Dinkins was able to cap off the quarter with some fireworks.

The junior for South Iron finished with 21 points in three quarters and was named our Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game. Panthers head coach Dusty Dinkins says a win is nice, but they’ll have to play better in the championship tomorrow.

Higbee falls to (19-6) and will play for 3rd place tomorrow. South Iron improves to (24-4) and will play Mound City (28-1)  tomorrow afternoon at 2 on J-98 The Boot for the Class 1 State Title.
