South Iron Boys Basketball Falls to Cardinal Ritter

(Annapolis) The South Iron Panthers difficult schedule continued tonight against another top-5 opponent. The Panthers faced the second ranked team in Class 5 and fought hard all night, but fell 83-72 to the Cardinal Ritter Lions. The game went back and forth early on, and the Lions extended their lead to six with just a few seconds left before halftime. Drennin Dinkins however, wasn’t content with being down six at the break.

South Iron opened the second half on a six to two run to take a one point lead. The Lions responded by taking the lead and not giving it up the rest of the way.

The Panthers fell behind by as many as 19 in the game but refused to go quietly. They would fight back and bring it to an 11 point deficit late into the fourth behind star senior Brock Wakefield.

After the game, Panther head coach Dusty Dinkins said his team is learning from the tough schedule and he hopes that helps them play into March.

Mario Fleming led the way for the Lions with 25 points while Drennin Dinkins paced the Panthers with 21. South Iron falls to 9-3 and face Bunker (7-1) tomorrow. Cardinal Ritter improves to 4-3 on the season.
