South Iron Claims Third Straight AV Thanksgiving Tournament Crown with Rout of Bunker – Ellington Takes Third Place on J98

(Ironton) On the final day of the 94th Annual Arcadia Valley Thanksgiving Tournament, the South Iron Panthers claimed their third straight tournament crown while the Bunker Eagles finished as the runner-up and the Ellington Whippets took third on J98.

The third-place game was controlled throughout by the Ellington Whippets as they knocked off the Lesterville Bearcats by a final score of 71-45.

The Whippets carved out an early lead behind some red-hot shooting from sophomore Aiden Anderson.

Anderson was named the Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the game with 20 points and six three-pointers made.

The Whippets improve to 2-1 on the season and will next travel to Alton on Tuesday.

Lesterville falls to 1-3 and will be back in Ironton to take on Arcadia Valley on Tuesday.

In the championship game, South Iron rolled to an 80-45 win over Bunker behind tremendous efforts from Brock Wakefield and Drenin Dinkins.

Wakefield was the Applebee’s Player of the Game as he finished the night with 33 points.

Dinkins meanwhile poured in 20 of his own.

South Iron head coach Dusty Dinkins says he felt like they were not as cohesive as they could have been but he is still proud of their effort.

The Panthers improve to 3-0 with the win and earned their 14th Arcadia Valley Thanksgiving Tournament championship since 1999 and their third in a row.

They will next be on the road against Ellington on December 8th.

Bunker falls to 2-1 and will travel to Van Buren on December 8th.
