South Iron, Ellington Advance To BRL Girls Title Game

(LESTERVILLE, Mo.) – The #1-seed South Iron Panthers and the #2-seed Ellington Whippets will square off in the girls championship game of the Black River League tournament at Lesterville Friday night. Both teams won their semifinal games Wednesday night on J-98.
In the first semifinal game of the evening, Ellington defeated the 3-seed East Carter Redbirds 66-33. Gracie Price led the scoring for the Whippets with 21 points.
Price scored four 2-point field goals in both the second and third quarters and was named our Applebee’s player of the game. Ellington head coach Paula King talked about her young team’s performance.
Ellington improved their record to 10-4 while East Carter fell to 6-7 on the season.
In the second game of the evening, it was the top seed South Iron knocking off the 5-seed Viburnum Bluejays 67-30. Michaela Ayers led the scoring with 27 points for South Iron.
Ayers was named the Applebee’s player of the game. Jada Brooks followed with 13 points and Dara Miller added 12. South Iron head coach Lawrence Graves said he liked his team’s offensive rhythm.
South Iron improved their record to 13-2 while Viburnum falls to 7-7. South Iron will play Ellington for the championship of the girls bracket on Friday, which can be heard on J-98. Viburnum will play East Carter for third place.
