South Iron Falls to Platte Valley in Class 1 Semifinals

(Springfield) The #3 South Iron Lady Panthers’ season came to an end today as they fell to Platte Valley 43-34 in the girls class 1 semifinals in Springfield on J-98. South Iron struggled to find the bottom of the barrel in the first quarter and found themselves down 15-5 at the end of 1. The Panthers made up a little ground in the second, but Platte Valley went into the locker room with a 26-14 lead thanks to Kaylin LaMaster’s 14 first half points

Platte Valley extended their lead to 19 at the end of 3, but South Iron was able to cut it to 7 with less than 2 minutes to play in the ballgame.

It was too little too late as South Iron never got it closer than that 7 and Platte Valley was able to knock down a few free throws.

Madison Ayers was our Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game with 17 points for South Iron. Head coach of the Lady Panthers Lawrence Graves says he’s proud of what his seniors were able to accomplish this year.

South Iron finish their season in the semifinals with a 25-5 record as there is no longer a 3rd place game due to the Coronavirus. Platte Valley improves to 28-3 and knocks off their second top-5 opponent in as many games. They will play the winner of #1 Community and #2 Walnut Grove for the Class 1 State Championship tomorrow at 2:40.
