South Iron Girls Basketball Books Trip to Springfield With Quarterfinal Victory

(Delta) The South Iron girls basketball team is headed back to Springfield for the second year in a row and the third time in the last five years as they took down Delta 65-63 in the Class 1 Quarterfinals today on the MyMoInfo SportStream. The Ladycats of Delta came out with a vengeance on the defensive side of the ball and held the Panthers to 27 first half points as they took a two point lead into the break.

In the second half, the Panthers found their stride as they regained the lead in the third and we got another buzzer beater.

Then South Iron would catch fire from outside to extend their lead to 11 in the fourth.

Delta would fight their way within one possession, but the Panthers were able to knock down some key shots and free throws down the stretch for the win. Madison Ayers finished the ballgame with 28 points and went 16/18 from the charity stripe on her way to the being named the Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game. South Iron head coach Lawrence Graves says he’s proud of his girls for staying patient.

Delta sees their great season come to a close with a record of (21-6). South Iron improves to (21-4) and move on to the Class 1 Semifinals for the second straight year. The Panthers will play the Leeton Lady Bulldogs (22-4) next Friday evening at 6 at JQH Arena in Springfield. You can listen to that game starting at 5:45 on Regional Radio.
