South Iron Girls Basketball Falls Short in Semis

(Springfield) The South Iron girls basketball team had a lead late, but fell short in the end of their semifinal game 47-43 to the Leeton Lady Bulldogs on J-98. It was a slow start for both sides as the first points of the entire game didn’t come until the 2:12 mark of the first quarter. Leeton would take a one point advantage into the second quarter when the South Iron offense finally came to life.

South Iron would take a 16-12 lead into the break. Leeton was able to cut the South Iron lead to one before the end of three and entered the fourth with the Panthers leading 30-29. The Panthers had the lead for most of the fourth, but the Bulldogs kept hanging around before finally taking the lead for good at the 3:41 mark of the fourth quarter capping off a 5-0 run.
Panthers head coach Lawrence Graves says the Bulldogs defense was troublesome for the Panthers in the end.

The South Iron Lady Panthers fall to (21-5) and will play in the 3rd Place Game tomorrow morning at 10 on J-98 The Boot against the loser of Platte Valley and Walnut Grove. Leeton improves to (23-4) and will play their first ever girls basketball state title tomorrow afternoon.
