South Iron Junior Madison Ayers Swipes Second Straight Dream Team Selection

(Annapolis) South Iron Lady Panthers Point Guard Madison Ayers has been named to the Regional Radio Dream Team for the second year in a row for girls basketball. Ayers was a menace on the defensive side of the ball this year, averaging 6 steals per game and achieving the second-most steals in a game in state history with 18 against Bunker in the BRL Tournament. She tells us how she is able to play defense so well.

And it’s not just Ayers that buys in defensively. She says the reason South Iron has been successful for so long is because of its defensive principles.

Ayers is also a prolific scorer and ball-handler for the Lady Panthers, averaging 17 points and 5 assists. She says she’s always looking to get her teammates involved.

This was the first year in Ayers’ high school career where she hasn’t played in the State Championships in Columbia for basketball. Her goal for next year is to get back to Columbia and bring home a championship that has eluded the Lady Panther program.

The Lady Panthers finished 26-2 this year and won their sixth straight District Championship but would fall to Delta in the State Quarterfinals. Alongside being named to the Regional Radio Dream Team, Ayers was named the MBCA Player of the Year for Class 1.
