(Ironton) J-98’s coverage of the 92nd annual Arcadia Valley Thanksgiving Basketball Tournament continued Thursday evening. In the third place game, the Fredericktown Black Cats defeated the Ellington Whippets 72-47. Logan Winkleman led scoring for Fredericktown with 19 points and was named the J-98/Applebee’s Player of the Game.

Fredericktown head coach Joby Sikes says this was the best finish in Fredericktown history in the tourney. Sikes says he has seen improvement in his team.

In the championship game, the South Iron Panthers beat the Lesterville Bearcats 81-46. The game started with a 20-0 run by South Iron. Brock Wakefield had 8 points for the Panthers in the first quarter and continued the assault in the second.

Wakefield had a game total of 17 points. Freshman Drennen Dinkins led the scoring for the Panthers with 26 points and was our J-98/Applebee’s Player of the Game.

South Iron is now 3-0 on the young season. Lesterville falls to 2-1. Earlier in the evening, West County narrowly defeated Arcadia Valley 57-54 for 5th place.
