South Iron Seniors Martez Burse And Kolton Dinkins Talk About State Championship, Being Applebee’s Of Farmington Athletes Of The Week

(Annapolis) South Iron seniors Martez Burse and Kolton Dinkins are co-Applebee’s of Farmington Athletes of the Week. After helping South Iron win their third consecutive Class 1 state championship, they said the reception back home has been pretty cool…

In two games last weekend, Burse put up two double-doubles and averaged 22 points and 11.5 rebounds. He’s been doing that all year, but the mental preparation for playing on a big stage was important…

Burse also crossed 1,000 career points when he scored six points in overtime of the state championship game, but that wasn’t what excited him most about playing in Springfield…

Dinkins scored 33 total points and shot 6-of-11 on three-pointers in both games and put up, what he says, a career-high 19 points in the championship game…

Dinkins says seeing all of the maroon in the stands at Great Southern Bank Arena gave the Panthers an extra jolt…

In the state championship, South Iron trailing by two with 15 seconds left, Dinkins missed a three, followed up his shot, got the ball tipped to him and he made a floater to send the game into overtime. It’s a play that could be immortalized in Annapolis forever…

South Iron defeated St. Elizabeth 56-47 in overtime to win the state championship. The Panthers ended the year with a record of 28-4. As co-Athletes of the Week, Burse and Dinkins received a t-shirt, certificate and a free entree at the Applebee’s of Farmington.
