South Iron’s Dusty Dinkins Named Dream Team Boys’ Basketball Coach of the Year

(Annapolis) Dusty Dinkins was able to snag the second boys basketball state title for South Iron this year and earned himself Dream Team Coach of the Year honors in the process. He says it’s all because of the kids on his squad.

This was the first trip to the final four for coach Dinkins since 2008. He says he knew this group had something special at a young age.

The Panthers started three seniors; Brock Wakefield, Marco Burse and Luke Lunyou. With those leaders, they went (25-4), won the Class 1 State Championship and scored 80 points a game while only allowing 46 per contest. Coach Dinkins says those guys along with Drenin Dinkins, DJ Prater and Champ McMurry made his job fairly easy.

After a story book season was cut short last year by the eventual state champions, Dinkins says he’s glad he could bring the title back to the supportive Annapolis community this year.

The South Iron Panthers finished the season (25-4) and won their second boys basketball state championship in school history.
