South Iron’s Dusty Dinkins Wins Third Straight Dream Team Coach of the Year

(Annapolis) For the third year in a row, South Iron Head Coach Dusty Dinkins was selected by his coaching peers as the Regional Radio Winter Dream Team Coach of the Year for Boys Basketball. Dinkins led his Panthers to a 28-4 record and a second straight State Championship in Class 1. Last year, South Iron lost two talented seniors Brock Wakefield and JeMarco Burse to graduation, but Dinkins says this year’s upperclassmen were more than ready to defend their title.
Starting at the Central Christmas Tournament, South Iron went on a 14-game winning streak that lasted until February but eventually lost two straight before heading into the postseason. While losing in the final month of the season could halt momentum, Dinkins says these losses were actually a positive for his team.
While South Iron has extraordinary talent each year on the court, Dinkins says how his players act off the court defines the Panther program.
Dinkins wanted to thank those that made this year a memorable one.
South Iron defeated Stanberry in the Class 1 State Championship Game 71-45 on March 12th at JQH Arena in Springfield. Alongside being named the Regional Radio Winter Dream Team Coach of the Year, Dinkins was named the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association Coach of the Year for Class 1.
