South Iron’s Wakefield Signs with The Citadel for Basketball and Baseball

(Annapolis) Still amidst a decorated career, South Iron’s standout athlete Brock Wakefield signed Wednesday to continue his basketball and baseball career at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina.

He says the opportunity to play both sports that he loves was certainly a draw, but there were many things that made The Citadel a great fit.

Name an accolade and Wakefield has earned it in his time playing sports in Annapolis.

On the basketball court for the Panthers, he has been named three-time Black River League All-Conference, three-time BRL Player of the Year, three-time All-District, three-time All-State, three-time Regional Radio Dream Team, and 2019-20 Dream Team Player of the Year.

On the baseball diamond, Wakefield earned three-time Black River League All-Conference, two-time All-District, and All-State and BRL Player of the Year in 2019.

Pretty impressive, right?

Well, he still has his senior seasons of basketball and baseball still to come, so expect that list to grow even more.

Wakefield says he loves playing for South Iron and appreciates the support from the fans.

Aside from the individual accolades, Wakefield has been a key part of several tremendous teams with South Iron basketball.

Over the past three seasons the Panthers have won 22 or more games each year including two district championships and an undefeated regular season in 2020 (26-0).

He says his approach to the game never wavers – do whatever it takes to help the team win.

Wakefield joins a Citadel basketball team that has averaged just over 10 wins per season over their past six years and a baseball team that was 10-6 last year before the remainder of the season was canceled due to the pandemic.
