Speed Kills Valle Catholic as St. Mary’s Runs Away with District Semifinal Win

(Ste. Genevieve) The St. Mary’s Dragons football team toppled the Valle Catholic Warriors in the Class 3 District 1 semifinals by a final score of 55-22 tonight on J98.

A rough start put the Warriors behind the eight ball as St. Mary’s scored on their first offensive play and followed that up with a pick-six to go up 14-0 in the blink of an eye.

Things went from bad to worse as Valle was forced to punt and Dragons’ five-star recruit Kevin Coleman took it to the house.

That made it 21-0 in the first quarter as St. Mary’s came out firing on all cylinders.

The Warriors responded with their best drive of the night as they marched all the way down the field and punched it in with Bryce Giesler.

As quickly as Valle trimmed it to a 14-point game, St. Mary’s extended the lead right back as Coleman caught an 11-yard jump ball in the endzone to make it 28-7.

Valle kept showing signs of life though as Chase Fallert found a wide-open Drew Bauman for a 68-yard strike through the air.

That made it 28-13 after a missed extra point, and that was as close as Valle would get for the rest of the night as St. Mary’s rattled off 27 straight points to lead 55-13 at the end of the third quarter.

A scoop and score touchdown for the Warriors Mitchell Meyer and a safety on a botched snap by the Dragons concluded the scoring at 55-22 in the fourth quarter as the Dragons won in commanding fashion.

Valle head coach Judd Naeger says he is proud of his team’s fight but they just could not slow down St. Mary’s offense.

The Valle Catholic Warriors finish the season at 9-1.

St. Mary’s improves to 4-1 and they will take on the Kennett Indians next week for the District Championship.
