Spelling Wizard from Farmington Performs Excellent in National Spelling Bee

(Farmington) Four Missouri students, including a student from St. Francois County, competed in this week’s quarterfinals of the National Spelling Bee.

Pooja Dayaratna of Farmington made it all the way to the quarterfinal round.

Dayaratna spelled the word hamulus correctly.

Pooja also chose the correct meaning of the word sitzkrieg.

All four Missourians made it to the third round of the quarterfinals but Colette Giezentanner of Webster Groves was the only one to advance to the National Spelling Bee semifinals on Sunday, June 27th.
